Hi everyone, and welcome to the 2019-2020 academic year! Our names are Meaghan and Miranda, and we are your Co-presidents of the Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences Society (BBSS). We have been on the society together for three years, and we are so passionate about biochemistry and constantly finding new ways to make it alkynes of fun! We will be working alongside the incredible 2019-2020 BBSS Executive Team to bring you the best year of biochemistry thus far! As a society, we will be providing you with tons of academic, social, and career-oriented events to enhance your experience as biochemists. We hope to provide you with as much support as possible as your journey through Biochemistry continues. Please feel free to contact us via email, or come and chat when you see us around if you have any questions, comments or concerns about our society or the biochemistry program. We hope you have a great year and we look forward to meeting you all!
Hello everyone! I am super excited to be working alongside Stephanie as your VP academics this year. We would love to be part of your academic journey as you face the demanding lifestyle of being a biochemistry student. We’ve been there and we want to make sure that you have the proper resources and support to excel. Come and join us as we host many events that can give you a jumpstart to your university career. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions, concerns or if you’re like me, just need a shoulder to cry on; we’re just a quick message away!
Hey Everyone! My name is Stephanie and I’m in my third year of BDC (but I’m a biochem at heart). I’m super excited to be working with Lina as your VP Academics! I look forward to helping you navigate the confusing world of research, courses and all things biochemistry! From Meet the Profs Night to Research Information Night to alkynes of other events, I hope to equip you with the resources you need to reach your potential! In those rare moments when I’m not in the lab or HSL, you can find me playing sports, watching Netflix, roasting my friends or trying to explain to my family what the BDC program is. Feel free to reach out to me via email or Facebook if you have any questions, concerns or just need to share some science puns! Looking forward to an incredible year!
Hey everyone! I’m Alyshia and I’m excited to be your VP Internal for this year! I’m a secretary at heart, so I’ll be in charge of administrative tasks on the BBSS: taking minutes, scheduling rooms and making sure our meetings run smoothly. I’ll also be helping out fellow execs with planning events for you all to enjoy. I love meeting new people, especially new biochemistry students! Feel free to message me on Facebook or send me an email if you have any questions, or want to vent about Orgo. It’s going to be a great year!
Hi everyone! My name is Toni (She/Her) and I’m stoked to be one of the VP Broteins for the 2019-2020 academic year. I’m extremely proud to call McMaster and the Biochemistry department my home, and am always available if you ever have any questions about Broteins, the BBSS or just want to have life chats in general. My Co-VP David and I have made it our mission to connect the incoming Biochemistry& Biomedical Sciences class of 2022 with enthusiastic upper year Broteins who will help you navigate your way through Claisen Condensation reactions, PyMol and many other learning opportunities you might face! I am incredibly excited for what the year has to bring, and cannot wait to meet you all during the upcoming events the BBSS has to offer!
Hi friends!! My name is David and I’m one of the VP Broteins for the 2019-2020 year. I will be working alongside the wonderful Toni to run the Broteins mentorship program this year. By pairing students up with like-minded upper-year mentors and running events ranging from midterm reviews to socials, we hope to prepare students for second year and beyond. I had a wonderful second year and I hope to provide the same experience to our incoming biochemists! Please feel free to reach out to me about anything, whether it be about surviving orgo, finding amazing study spots off campus, or finding ways to get involved at Mac! I can’t wait to meet you all!
Hi everyone! My name is Ally, and I will be your VP Careers for the 2019-2020 school year. In this role, I hope to shine light on the many career opportunities that exist once you graduate from undergrad. There is so much more out there than just professional school, and my goal is to make you aware of the incredible things happening in the world of science and academia. I plan to achieve this by bringing you events such as Careers night, as well as keeping you up to date on interesting lectures, events, job opportunities, etc. If you have any questions, concerns, or have suggestions for events you would like to see, please feel free to reach out. It is going to be an amazing year, and I am so excited to meet you all!
What’s up everyone! I’m Kush (… yea I know). I’m a 3rd year heading into the BDC program, but still Biochem by heart! I am very excited to be 1 of your VP Externals this year! Me and my co will be working hard to bring you exciting events that’ll help you escape the stressful times trying to understand why the Trp operon is so Trppy or from memorizing all the amino acids and create a balance in your busy lives. Us Externals, along with the rest of the BBSS team, want to make sure you get the most out of Biochem and we’re going to help with many events planned throughout the year, including a BBSS intramurals team both semesters for the sport of your choice and Biochem Olympics! I really enjoy meeting new people and hearing new ideas so if you guys have any suggestions, things you want to see from us, questions… anything, feel free to reach out to me, I’ll most likely be in HSL talking, watching Netflix or car videos… pretty much anything but studying so there’s nothing that can possibly distract me more. Excited to see what this year’s got in store for us!
