About the BBSS
The Biochemistry and Biomedical Student Society (BBSS) is a student-led organization dedicated to supporting undergraduate students in the Department of Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences at McMaster University. Through academic, professional, and social events, we aim to foster an inclusive and connected community while providing opportunities for students to grow, build meaningful relationships, and make the most of their university experience.
Our Subteams
We’re dedicated to creating engaging, welcoming, and unforgettable experiences for students in the Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences program! This past year, we were proud to showcase our annual formal, “Once Upon a Thymine”, with unforgettable performances as well as hosting several successful “BBSS Welcome Week” events aiding 2nd-year student in transitioning into the program. We’re excited to bring back BBSS Welcome Week again this year and are thrilled to introduce a special “BBSS Birthday Party” in honour of the programs 60th anniversary! Whether it’s themed socials, trivia nights, or formal events, our subcommittee is all about building community and celebrating the people who make BBSS so special!

Our BBSS Fundraising subcommittee plans and hosts fun, engaging events to bring people together while raising money for meaningful causes. From creative fundraisers to campus wide initiatives, we focus on making a positive impact and supporting our community. A few of our fun events that are lined up include the Biochem Brew, The Biochemistry Grand Raffle, a campus wide book drive and many more so stay tuned!
As VP Creatives, we create engaging content and promotional media to connect with and inform the community. Through creative visuals, we aim to keep students updated, encourage participation in events, and document the BBSS journey!

The Academics subteam is all about helping BBSS students navigate throughout their academic journey, from transitioning into the specialization to exploring opportunities after undergrad. We host events, like our highly anticipated Meet The Profs event, and create helpful guides to help students navigate the program, and explore opportunities and pathways after undergrad. Our goal is to help you feel more confident about your academic career!

VP Broteins
The Broteins team works hard to build connections within the Biochemistry community through peer mentorship and social events. We know how hard the transition from first-year is, so our goal is to create a welcoming environment where students can meet their peers and grow together.
VP external’s job is to coordinate and plan collaborative events with other clubs and organizations to strengthen connections between Biochemistry students and the broader McMaster community. These events help build relationships with student groups across campus to create engaging academic, social, and networking opportunities for BBSS students! With an interest in connecting BBSS students with research done within our faculty, we also have recently launched a BBSS LinkedIn highlighting research conducted by McMaster students, providing a space to showcase their work and share research opportunities within the Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences community. The Finance team manages the society’s finances throughout the year. We handle budget planning, expense tracking, reimbursements, and help ensure each subteam has the financial support they need to carry out their initiatives.

The Internal subteam serves as the backbone of the club, ensuring operations run smoothly behind the scenes. From coordinating room bookings and event approvals to maintaining an up-to-date calendar, they play an important role in keeping the entire team organized, informed, and on track throughout the year.
