SAY HELLO TO YOUR 2018-2019 BIOCHEMISTRY AND BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES SOCIETY EXECUTIVES
Here's a bit about all of this year's executives. Please feel free to reach out to any of them any time!
Hello and welcome! I am beyond excited to be one of the BBSS Co-Presidents for the 2018-2019 year. Our goal is to make sure that you are supported during your time in the Biochemistry program. We hope to provide the Biochemistry student body with academic, mentorship, social and career events and resources to assist you in succeeding within this program and beyond. Our amazing team will also be working hard all year long to provide you with BBSS apparel, intramural teams, a biochemistry-themed formal and so much more! If you have any ideas on how the society can better support you or just want to share some biochem puns, feel free to come and talk to me at any time – I’m probably just thinking about corgis to be honest.
Hi biochemists! I'm thrilled to be one half of your presidential team for this year alongside the lovely Sierra Barnes. We're here to advocate on your behalf and make sure this year knocks your ligands off! Our amazing BBSS team has got a ton of fun (and educational) events planned for 2018-2019, so stay tuned! If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or even if you need a pep talk before a midterm, please feel free to reach out at any time. I don't sleep much so I promise to reply asap!
Hi everyone! As VP Academic, I strive to provide a safe and welcoming environment for learning in the Biochemistry program. This year, I will be working alongside my fellow VP Academic, Daniel, to provide you with a positive and fulfilling university experience. We will be organizing academic-related events such as Meet the Profs Night and Thesis Night to help guide you through the program. I am so excited to have the opportunity to positively impact the academic experience of Biochemistry students. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
It is my pleasure to be working alongside Julia as one of your VP Academics. Navigating the various opportunities and courses available to you as a biochemistry student can be a challenge, but we’re here to help you along every step of the way. We hope that through our events, you will be well on your way to achieving your academic and personal goals. If you have any questions about courses, research positions, thesis positions, or just want to chat about your favourite Netflix series, feel free to reach out and contact me via Facebook or email. Hope you’re as excited for an amazing year as I am!
Hi everyone! My name is Anjali and I will be your VP Admin for the 2018-2019 school year. I am beyond excited to work alongside this year’s exec team to help plan, organize and execute amazing events and opportunities for you all. I am looking forward to expanding my social circle and (peptide)-bonding with you all at these events. I love to talk about anything related to biochemistry/research/food places to try in Hamilton etc. If you have questions or suggestions about anything, or just want to talk, please feel free to reach out.
Hi everyone! My name is Meaghan and I’m one of the VP Broteins for the 2018-2019 year. I love everything to do with Biochemistry and getting involved at McMaster, and am always happy to answer any questions you may have (e.g. how you can get involved, how to survive orgo, etc etc). As a VP Brotein, I have the exciting opportunity to match all of the amazing 2nd year Biochemistry & Biomedical Sciences students with upper year Brotein mentors! My Co-VP Kevin and I hope to introduce some new and exciting events, and we can't wait to share what we have in store and to get to know you all in the upcoming year!
Hi guys! My name is Kevin and I, along with Meaghan Doyle, will be in charge of the Broteins mentorship program by the Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences Society. Our goal is to minimize the stress that comes along with the transition from first year to second year, whether it be socially or academically. Since most second years are diverging from Life Sciences in first year, we know that a lot of you may not have many friends in the program, so we hope to catalyze new friendships between second years by giving you guys practical opportunities to meet and learn together. In addition, we will be running academic workshops which include review sessions before tests and professional skills that will be transferable to your success. I am very excited for what's to come this year and hope to meet you all soon!
Hey everyone! My name is Vanessa and I, along with Danny, will be your VPs for Careers! I’m super excited to help organize career-related events that can help shine light on all the options we have after university! If you see me at our Careers night, or any of the other amazing events BBSS runs, please feel free to come talk to me! I’d love to be there for anything you need- questions/comments/suggestions/struggles, so feel free to reach out at any time! Its going to be an awesome year!
Hi everyone! My name is Danny and I will be your VP Careers for the 2018-2019 school year! My role will be to organize events that highlight the plentiful career paths that are out there for you after undergrad (yes there's life after Biochem!) I hope to see you all at the many BBSS events like the Careers Fair - it's going to be an amazing year! If you ever have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, always feel free to shoot me a message.
Hi everybody! I’m excited to be coming back as the VP External for the 2018-2019 school year. I’ll be here to ensure all our fellow Biochemists are able to balance a heavy course load with an active lifestyle. Weekly intramural leagues sprinkled in with a couple events per year should hopefully provide some relief from all the hurrying and worrying over the pipetting and prelab testing. Outside of the lab and classroom, you’ll find me studying at various places across campus, at the gym, on the fields tossing a frisbee, taking nature walks or at Osmows ordering a chicken on the rocks!
Hello Everyone! My name is Stephanie and I’m beyond thrilled to be working alongside Steven as one of your VP Externals! We are looking forward to bringing you a great year filled with intramurals, stress busters, biochem olympics and alkynes of other events! We know that the biochem life can be pretty stressful and we want to make life outside the lab as enjoyable as possible! I love my fellow biochemists so don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you ever have any questions, comments, ideas, some quality science puns to share or even if you just want to talk! I can’t wait for you all to see what the BBSS has in store for this year and I’m so excited to meet you all!
Hey I’m Dana! I’m a third year BDC student with Biochem roots and am so excited to be a part of the BBSS! Miranda & I will be your VP Fundraisers this year and together we’re gonna make sure the BBSS has the funds for super fun events like the spring formal and money to support our local charities like Ronald McDonald House! We hope you’re excited for the clothing sale where you can get some sick Biochem merch, and the Krispy Kreme donut sales we'll have sprinkled throughout the year! We also have a few new and exciting fundraising initiatives planned that we can’t wait to share!
Hi, I’m Miranda and this year I will be working alongside Dana as your VP Fundraising! Fundraising is here to make sure you look tastefully swagged out in your biochemistry merchandise. Not only will we be bringing you a bomb BBSS clothing sale, but we will have other fundraising events throughout the year to raise money for the BBSS and local charities. If you have any ideas for the clothing sale or other fundraising events, feel free to send us an email. Team work makes the dream work!

Throughout this year, we hope to continue to connect students in an environment outside of academics through various social events such as our annual biochemistry-themed formal.
